But a 3d piece has finally came together so going on
"body dysmorphic disorder"
I have created a set of 12 masks which highlight the issue they are brightly coloured using silk fibers mouled over mask then sewn into with PVA to coat them to make them less fragile.
I originally though that i would use more neutral colours such as whites and pastels so it wasn't that nutral but after some imagery work shown that they didn't make an impact like bright colours did due to the conclusion i came to which was that this issue is hidden to using pastels and dull backs up it almost being taboo and being kept just to what we think in our head so by using the bright colours it is showing the issue in its simplistic form whilst making them the main vocal point of view and discussion.
This was my intention taking a well known subject we know not a lot about which is also personally to each person and showing it simply.
But relating back to brief that was given; how indeed does this all relate to transformation. The whole idea is that the chemical reaction in the brain when you look in the mirror is the transformation for all you might think that you have a monster nose in actual fact you probably do not.
This is the transformation side; the transformation in image from what is there psychically to what you see mentally.
But Kirsten how to masks come into this theory?
well taking the mental and adding something as simple as a mask or make up or a hat to cover up what we want to change is a way of covering up the chemical reaction change to make ourselves feel secure and not so anxious about what we see.
